What are the risks if I have eaten the product Wild prawns – whole raw frozen tropical shrimp?

The recall was triggered due to the possible presence of the bacteria Vibrio vulnificusa bacteria naturally present in certain seafood products and potentially dangerous to health.

In healthy people, this bacteria can cause:

  • gastrointestinal disorders,
  • abdominal pain,
  • diarrhea,
  • nausea or vomiting.

More in fragile people or people suffering from chronic illnesses (liver disease, diabetes, immunosuppression, etc.), the infection can become much more serious and lead to:

  • a igeneralized infection (sepsis),
  • severe complications requiring hospitalization.

The official website also specifies that a skin contamination is possible when handling the product if you have a sore or injury on the skin. It is also because of this risk of skin infections that Vibrio Vulnificus is also nicknamed “flesh-eating bacteria”.

What should I do if I purchased the affected product?

If you have this product in your freezer, it is strongly recommended to:

  • no longer consume iteven if it looks or smells normal;
  • return it to the E.Leclerc point of sale in order to obtain a refund;
  • contact the store if in doubt.
